In Sainte-Flavie, at the gateway to the Gaspésie, the Marché public de La Mitis sets up behind the church every Saturday in summer. Its listing with the Association des Marchés publics du Québec (AMPQ), Quebec’s public market association, also announces a one-day Christmas market at the Centre municipal de Sainte-Flavie, at the same address on Route Flavie-Drapeau.

Why go? To stock up on local products before the December rush, find gifts made by artisans from the region and support the people who keep the market going the rest of the year.

More than 25 producers, processors and artisans

For the 2026 edition, the AMPQ announces more than 25 local producers, processors and artisans, with plenty of flavours to taste and products designed to be given as gifts. A youth booth and entertainment will round out the holiday atmosphere. The list of exhibitors had not yet been published by mid-October.

To give you an idea of what the region produces, the AMPQ listing for the summer market includes, among other things, fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses, meats and charcuterie, fish and seafood, bread and pastries, honey and maple syrup, jams and pickles, non-timber forest products, herbal teas and coffee, as well as alcoholic beverages. There’s no guarantee all of it will be there in November, but it’s a good overview. To keep the habit all year long, here are our tips for eating more local food in Quebec.

Holiday season 2026: Saturday, November 21

The Christmas market takes place on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Centre municipal de Sainte-Flavie (775, route Flavie-Drapeau, behind the church). It’s a single day with short hours: arrive early if you want the best selection. The date is published on the market’s AMPQ listing; the market’s own website was still showing only the summer season when we checked. No activity is announced for December.

Good to know: a market born in 2008

The Marché public de La Mitis took root in the fall of 2007 and held its first season in June 2008. Its mission: to promote buying local and to showcase quality regional products. In 2026, the summer market ran every Saturday from June 6 to October 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Its website mentions more than twenty exhibitors in high season, and the AMPQ, about fifteen on average.

Admission is free and the parking lot is large. The AMPQ listing also mentions an electric vehicle charging station and bike parking, as well as a bike path and a playground nearby. Finally, the market’s website presents a $30,000 fundraising campaign to acquire an open-air multipurpose pavilion.
