Markets are not just a summer thing. Some Quebec public markets stay open year-round, others hold winter markets, and from mid-November to Christmas, Christmas markets bring local producers and artisans together. It is the perfect time to buy local, for the holiday table as much as for gifts.
We covered 16 regions using the directory of the Association des marchés publics du Québec, the markets' own websites, municipalities and tourism offices. Every profile was checked on October 15, 2026 against the official website, and we say clearly when a 2026 date has not yet been confirmed by the organizer. Summer markets will be added to this guide in the spring.

Know a public market or Christmas market that makes room for local producers and is not listed here? Let us know: we will check it and add it.
How we built this guide
We started from the directory of the Association des marchés publics du Québec, then added Christmas markets listed by tourism offices and municipalities. We kept public markets open year-round or in winter, Christmas markets that make room for local producers and artisans, and a few major seasonal markets. We left out events that do not feature Quebec exhibitors.
For each market, we opened the official website and at least one other source on October 15, 2026. When a 2026 date was only published by an aggregator website, the profile says so. Each profile has its own list of sources.
Our tips for winter market trips
- Check the hours the day before: storms, statutory holidays and holiday schedules change everything.
- Bring your bags and containers: cheese, meat and pastries travel well in reusable containers.
- Talk to the producers: ask where the product comes from and how to store it.
- Think about the holiday menu: our réveillon menu, dish by dish and our Quebec cheese board give you the shopping list.
Why shop at the market? We explain it in the benefits of local markets and in our guide to eating more local food in Quebec.
Frequently asked questions
Which public markets are open in winter in Quebec?
In this guide, 8 markets are open year-round, including the Jean-Talon, Atwater and Maisonneuve markets in Montréal, the Grand Marché de Québec, the 1555 in Saint-Hyacinthe and the public markets of Shawinigan and Drummondville. Others hold winter markets, like the Marché Sainte-Anne in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. Use the "Open year-round" and "Winter market" filters.
When do the 2026 Christmas markets start?
The first ones open in mid-November: the Grand Marché de Noël de Montréal from November 13, the Christmas market at Sherbrooke's Marché de la Gare on the 14th and the German Christmas Market in Québec City on the 19th. Most are held on weekends in late November and December. The calendar on this page lists them by date.
Can the dates change?
Yes. We checked every profile on October 15, 2026, but organizers sometimes adjust their dates and hours, and the weather can force a cancellation. When a date was only published by an aggregator website, the profile says so. Always check the official website before you go.
How can I tell if the products are local?
Ask: at the market, you often talk directly to the producer. Also look for the logos that guarantee Quebec origin, which we explain in our guide to eating more local food in Quebec.
My market is not on the list. Can you add it?
Yes, write to us at info@ecodici.ca. This guide starts with markets open in winter and Christmas markets; summer markets will be added in the spring.
