At the Marchés publics de Gaspé, the idea is simple: products from the region, for the people of the region. Every Saturday in summer and early fall, farmers and food producers from the Gaspésie set up alongside local artisans, with activities for families. Since 2026, the market has made its home at the Gaspé arena site, downtown.

Why go? To buy directly from the people who grow, gather and process food in the region, and to discover local products, right down to seaweed. According to its website, the market draws an average of more than 200 households every Saturday.

Vegetables, seaweed, maple and Gaspésie crafts

The official website lists vegetables, fruit, flowers, processed products, seaweed, honey, maple products and natural products, plus food service and tastings. On average, 13 exhibitors are there each Saturday, and more than 40 vendors take part over the course of the season.

The list of 2026 exhibitors posted on the website gives a good idea of the variety. For vegetables, there are Au Jardin des Épilobes, Les jardins de Forillon and Ferme Shaina Hayes, from Shigawake. For berries, blueberries from Les petits fruits de Douglas and haskap berries from Aliment Cambrook. You’ll also come across Érablière Sigewigus and Les érables de la passion, honey from Nicabeille, sausages and terrines from Ferme le Caprivore, cider from Cidrerie Caps-Noirs, hot sauces from Piments Déments and fine seaweed from Un Océan de saveurs. Artisans round out the offering with soaps, candles, jewellery and handmade accessories.

Holiday season: no market announced

The Marchés publics de Gaspé are a seasonal market. The 2026 season had 14 Saturdays, from July 4 to October 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it is now over: the website says see you in 2027. Neither the official website nor the listing of the Association des Marchés publics du Québec (AMPQ), Quebec’s public market association, mentions a Christmas or winter market. To follow announcements, the market points to its Facebook page and Instagram account.

Good to know: a market revived by its producers

Public markets have existed in Gaspé for nearly 15 years, run by various organizations. In 2019, Gaspé farmers asked the MRC de La Côte-de-Gaspé (the regional county municipality) to revive and develop the market. Since 2020, it has been managed by the MRC and the Comité Marchés Publics Gaspé, which sets the parameters of each season. Its mission: a lively, welcoming market that feeds the community and puts local food first, while staying open to regional artisans. It is a member of the AMPQ.

On site, the AMPQ listing mentions a picnic area, washrooms, car and bike parking, free Wi-Fi and payment by Interac or credit card at most booths. Pets are allowed. Curious about why these markets make a difference? Read our article on the benefits of local markets.
