At the L'Assomption station, the closest to Terrebonne, January averages -10.9 °C and the year adds up to 4,592 heating degree-days, about 7% more than Montreal (1991–2020 normals). Cold snaps hit harder here: -40 °C on January 27, 1994, compared with -31.8 °C the same day at Montréal-Trudeau airport.
So you need an ENERGY STAR Cold Climate model and reliable backup heat. Hydro-Québec explains that below their minimum operating temperature (between -15 °C and -25 °C for newer models), air-source heat pumps leave all the heating to the backup system. LogisVert pays $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C for a Cold Climate unit and $50 for an ENERGY STAR model.
In Joliette, part of the city is served by Hydro-Joliette, whose customers are eligible for LogisVert. The city also offers up to $1,275 to replace oil-fired central heating in a detached home, but it requires proof of a grant approved by Chauffez vert, Rénoclimat or a similar program. Chauffez vert closed on March 31, 2026, and Rénoclimat no longer funds heating, so ask the city whether a LogisVert approval qualifies. In Hydro-Joliette's territory, it also pays $500 per unit, under certain conditions, for an electric thermal storage unit, which LogisVert subsidizes at $22,000 when it's combined with a central heat pump.
Registration for the free heat pump is closed for 2026–2027, and the federal rebate announced on October 8, 2026, isn't open yet. For the installer: an RBQ licence with 15.9 or 15.10, plus 15.1, 15.7 or 15.8, CMMTQ or CETAF membership, and written quotes. And if someone rings your doorbell on behalf of Hydro-Québec, be wary: the Crown corporation doesn't go door to door for LogisVert.
