Lanaudière shows up often in outage reports. On November 11, 2025 at 5 p.m., after heavy snow, about 44,000 customers in the region were still waiting for power. On July 14, 2023 at 3 p.m., the day after violent thunderstorms, about 23,000 were. And a week after the May 21, 2022 derecho, the customers still without power since May 21 or 22 were mostly in the Laurentians, Lanaudière and Outaouais.
Most homes in the region are Hydro-Québec customers and can choose Rate Flex D: electricity costs 46.463¢/kWh during winter peak demand events, and your battery can take over during those hours. In part of Joliette, Hydro-Joliette distributes the power: its 2026 rate by-law provides neither Flex D nor net metering, and its written authorization is required before generating equipment is connected in parallel with its network.
In Repentigny, the city refunds a backup power station, in other words a battery-powered generator: 75% up to $200 if you buy it from a Repentigny retailer, 50% up to $150 from another Canadian store, with an application within 12 months of purchase. That is a portable unit. Rénoclimat, on the other hand, excludes portable batteries. Since October 1, 2026, it pays up to $4,000 for a fixed battery of at least 5 kWh, permanently connected to the panel of a principal residence, with a true sine wave inverter (1.2 kW continuous, 2.5 kW surge), grid-connected and compliant with standard E.12-07. No stacking with other public assistance for the same work, and LogisVert excludes storage.
