In Lanaudière, sunshine is almost the same from south to north. For one kilowatt of panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle, Natural Resources Canada calculates 1,196 kWh a year in Terrebonne, 1,194 in Repentigny, 1,193 in Joliette and 1,196 in Saint-Michel-des-Saints. For a 5 kW system in Terrebonne: 5 × 1,196 = about 5,980 kWh a year.
The real difference is in Joliette. For historical reasons, Hydro-Joliette serves part of the city, about 8,400 residential customers. Its rates are the same as Hydro-Québec's, but its 2026 rate by-law contains no net metering option. Its conditions of service also require documents showing the installation complies, plus Hydro-Joliette's written authorization, before any generating equipment is connected. With no credit for your surplus, aim for a system that covers your daytime consumption, and attach that written authorization to your LogisVert application.
Everywhere else, Hydro-Québec offers net metering: surplus builds up as kWh credits until the reset, every 24 months, when the balance is credited at 4.730¢ per kWh. As for LogisVert, it's $1,000 per kilowatt installed since June 30, 2025, up to 40% of the total cost. A cottage counts as an eligible house if it can be lived in year-round.
If you're a Hydro-Joliette customer, choose an installer who has already had a connection approved by that utility. In every case: an RBQ licence, a CMEQ master electrician for the connection request, filed before you buy, and an experienced installer, ideally NABCEP certified, as Hydro-Québec would like.
