On the Côte-Nord, the 2022 holiday storm dragged on. On December 25 at 11 a.m., about 17,000 customers in the region were still without power, and some 4,100 households were still out at noon on December 27. January averages -14.5°C in Sept-Îles: better to know ahead of time what your home will be able to keep running.
The utility is not the same everywhere. In Baie-Comeau's Marquette sector, the city distributes electricity to nearly 5,000 customers, and its 2026 rate by-law provides neither Flex D nor net metering. There, a battery is mainly for backup. Ask the city for its connection requirements before you buy. Elsewhere on the Côte-Nord, Hydro-Québec's Rate Flex D bills 46.463¢/kWh during peak demand events, announced the day before between December and March, and a battery can take over during those hours.
Rénoclimat pays up to $4,000 since October 1, 2026 for a fixed battery of at least 5 kWh in a principal residence, permanently connected to the panel, with a true sine wave inverter (1.2 kW continuous, 2.5 kW surge), grid-connected and compliant with Hydro-Québec standard E.12-07. The application portal is due to open this fall. Keep your itemized invoices and photos of the work now: Rénoclimat will ask for them, along with the compliance attestation form signed by the contractor. No other public assistance can be combined for the same work, and LogisVert excludes storage.
