In Mauricie, wind is what usually cuts the power. On November 3, 2019, two days after the Halloween storm, Hydro-Québec still counted 38,000 customers without power in Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec, the highest regional count in its update. The May 21, 2022 derecho then put Mauricie among the five hardest-hit regions, out of 554,649 customers affected across Quebec. It took 125 hours to restore 95% of them.
From Trois-Rivières to La Tuque, the region is served by Hydro-Québec, with no municipal utility. Rate Flex D is available, and since April 1, 2026, the Winter Credit Option no longer accepts new customers. A sample calculation: a 10 kWh battery drained during each of the 30 possible 4-hour events in a winter shifts 300 kWh at most. At a gap of about 37¢/kWh (46.463¢ at peak versus 9.103¢ off-peak), that is $112 per winter at best, before losses. Compare that with the quotes you get.
For work done since October 1, 2026 in a principal residence, Rénoclimat's grant reaches $4,000 for a fixed battery of at least 5 kWh, permanently connected to the panel, whose inverter delivers a true sine wave (1.2 kW continuous, 2.5 kW surge), works alongside the grid and meets Hydro-Québec standard E.12-07. The master electrician's fees are not covered by this measure, and no other public assistance can be combined for the same work. LogisVert offers nothing for storage.
Insist on a master electrician who belongs to the CMEQ and holds an RBQ subcategory 16 licence, and ask them to wait for Hydro-Québec's conditional approval before ordering equipment.
