In the Eastern Townships, storm Debby was a reminder that summer cuts power too: on August 10, 2024 at 1:30 p.m., about 37,000 customers in the region were still without power, the highest regional count at that time. After the 2019 Halloween storm, 20,000 customers were still waiting on November 3, and Environment Canada names Granby and Sherbrooke among the cities that took the brunt of it. In 1998, Granby lay inside the ice storm's “black triangle.”
Here, your utility changes the math. Hydro-Sherbrooke offers Rate Flex D at the same prices as Hydro-Québec, 46.463¢/kWh during peak demand events, but may cap the number of subscriptions. Hydro-Magog, Hydro-Coaticook and the Coopérative de Saint-Jean-Baptiste, which serves Sainte-Cécile-de-Milton and Sainte-Sabine, do not offer it. Hydro-Sherbrooke, Hydro-Magog and Hydro-Coaticook offer no net metering either. Sherbrooke and Magog require written authorization before generating equipment is connected in parallel with their network, and Magog charges a $1,150 inspection fee if the equipment feeds power into its grid. Elsewhere, Hydro-Québec customers can choose Flex D.
Rénoclimat applies everywhere: up to $4,000, since October 1, 2026, for a fixed battery of at least 5 kWh in a principal residence, with a true sine wave inverter (1.2 kW continuous, 2.5 kW surge), grid-connected and compliant with Hydro-Québec standard E.12-07. No other public assistance can be added for the same work, municipal aid included. In Granby, the program that topped up grants such as Rénoclimat has used up its 2026 budget anyway. LogisVert excludes storage.

For heat pumps, the licence must also include a refrigeration subclass (15.9 or 15.10). When a subclass that Hydro-Québec requires for LogisVert is missing (15.1, 15.7 or 15.8 for a heat pump; 11.2 or 13.5, and 16, for solar panels), the listing says so.
