In Chaudière-Appalaches, the Beauce still remembers the 1998 ice storm: Hydro-Québec lists it among the hardest-hit regions. More recently, 23,000 customers in the region were still waiting for power on November 3, 2019, two days after the Halloween storm, and about 6,300 were still waiting on August 10, 2024 at 1:30 p.m., the day after storm Debby swept through.
From Lévis to Saint-Georges and Thetford Mines, the region is served by Hydro-Québec: Rate Flex D is available. Keep a battery's two uses separate. With Flex D, it avoids kilowatt-hours billed at 46.463¢ during winter peak demand events. In an outage, it powers the chosen circuits, but only if the installation includes a switching device, such as a certified transfer switch or a mechanical interlock. The E.12-07 application guide bases this requirement on the safety of workers and the public. Have this setup spelled out in the quote.
Rénoclimat pays up to $4,000 since October 1, 2026 for a fixed battery of at least 5 kWh, permanently connected to the panel of a principal residence, with a true sine wave inverter (1.2 kW continuous, 2.5 kW surge), grid-connected and compliant with E.12-07. Work done by owners themselves is not eligible. For the switch, the backup source connection measure pays up to $1,000 of a master electrician's fees, not the device itself. No stacking with other public assistance for the same work, and LogisVert excludes storage.
