In Mauricie, Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan get the same result from Natural Resources Canada: 1,175 kWh a year for one kilowatt of panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle. Louiseville (1,184 kWh) and La Tuque (1,183 kWh) do even a little better. For a 5 kW system in Trois-Rivières: 5 × 1,175 = about 5,875 kWh a year.
The whole region is served by Hydro-Québec, so it's eligible for net metering. Electricity you don't use right away becomes a kWh credit on your next bills. Every two years, the bank is reset to zero and the balance is credited to you at 4.730¢ per kWh, far less than the 7.065¢ or 11.142¢ a kWh costs under Rate D. Producing more than you consume simply doesn't pay.
For the LogisVert grant, work backwards: $1,000 per installed kW, but never more than 40% of purchase and installation costs. To get $5,000 for 5 kW, the project has to cost at least $12,500 ($5,000 ÷ 0.40). The grant covers panels installed on or after June 30, 2025. You apply once Hydro-Québec's official authorization is in hand, no later than nine months after installation.
Mauricie was among the regions hit hardest by the May 2022 derecho. If you want power during an outage, Hydro-Québec mentions adding a battery, which LogisVert doesn't subsidize. On the installer side, LogisVert requires a business registered with the Registraire des entreprises and holding the right RBQ licences. Hydro-Québec strongly recommends an installer experienced in grid-connected solar, ideally NABCEP certified. The master electrician files the connection request: wait for conditional acceptance before buying.
