In Centre-du-Québec, Nicolet comes out on top at 1,178 kWh per kilowatt per year, ahead of Drummondville (1,170) and Victoriaville (1,157), according to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), for panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle. For a 5 kW system in Drummondville: 5 × 1,170 = about 5,850 kWh a year.
What are those kWh worth? Under Rate D from Hydro-Québec, the only utility in the region, a kWh has cost 7.065¢ in the first tier (40 kWh a day) and 11.142¢ beyond it since April 1, 2026. Depending on the tier it replaces, 5,850 kWh of production is worth $413 to $652 a year before taxes.
The trap is oversizing. With net metering, what you don't use becomes a kWh credit, but each reset of the bank, every 24 months, settles your leftover kWh at just 4.730¢. Before you sign, compare the output the installer promises with your annual consumption, shown on your bills, and with NRCan's figures for your town.
With LogisVert, count on $1,000 per kW for installations completed since June 30, 2025, up to 40% of the cost: for 5 kW, $5,000 if the project costs at least $12,500. Don't expect municipal help in Victoriaville for now: the City has suspended its Habitation durable program until further notice. For the installer, check the RBQ licence and insist that the connection request be filed by a master electrician who is a CMEQ member, before you buy. Hydro-Québec also advises an installer experienced with grid-connected solar, ideally NABCEP certified.
