In Abitibi-Témiscamingue, one kilowatt of panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle yields 1,166 kWh a year in Rouyn-Noranda and 1,162 kWh in Val-d'Or, according to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Témiscamingue does slightly better: 1,174 kWh in Ville-Marie. For a 5 kW system in Rouyn-Noranda: 5 × 1,166 = about 5,830 kWh a year, more than in Québec City or Sherbrooke.
What about winter? On paper, NRCan still projects 80 kWh per kW in January in Rouyn-Noranda, compared with 117 in July. Snow can cut that figure, Hydro-Québec points out, though it considers snow clearing unnecessary in most cases if the panels are well tilted and raised about 45 cm (18 in.).
In Amos, check your utility first. The City's Service de l'électricité serves part of the territory; the rest is served by Hydro-Québec. Its rates are identical to Hydro-Québec's, but its rate by-law makes no provision for net metering: with no credit for your surplus, only electricity used on the spot lowers your bill. With Hydro-Québec, surplus becomes kWh credits, reset every 24 months. And for LogisVert, a customer of the Amos utility must attach the City's written authorization for the connection.
LogisVert, for its part, pays $1,000 per kW for installations completed since June 30, 2025, up to 40% of the cost. Distance matters when choosing an installer: ask who will come out if an inverter fails, and how quickly. Also insist on an RBQ licence, a master electrician who is a CMEQ member for the connection request, filed before you buy, and solar experience, ideally the NABCEP certification Hydro-Québec recommends.
