In Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, before you think about sunshine, look at who sends your electricity bill. Three utilities share the region, and they don't treat your solar surplus the same way.
Customers of all three utilities are eligible for LogisVert: $1,000 per kilowatt, up to 40% of the cost, for installations completed on or after June 30, 2025. In Jonquière and Alma, though, you first need the City's written authorization to connect the panels to its grid, and you must attach it to your application.
As for sunshine, Natural Resources Canada's maps show 1,144 kWh per kilowatt per year in Saguenay, 1,147 in Alma and 1,173 in Saint-Félicien, in the Lac-Saint-Jean area, for panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle. A 5 kW system therefore produces 5,720 to 5,865 kWh a year.
For the installer, the basics don't change: an RBQ licence, connection by a master electrician who is a CMEQ member, conditional acceptance of the connection request before you buy and, ideally, the NABCEP certification Hydro-Québec recommends. In Jonquière or Alma, ask whether they've already had a connection approved by that municipal utility.
