In Montérégie, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield reaches 1,200 kWh a year for one kilowatt of panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle, according to Natural Resources Canada; Longueuil follows at 1,191 and Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu at 1,180. For a 5 kW system in Longueuil: 5 × 1,191 = about 5,955 kWh a year. Hydro-Québec serves the region, except the territory of the Coopérative de Saint-Jean-Baptiste, and offers net metering there, with the balance credited at 4.730¢ per kWh at each reset, every 24 months.
In 14 municipalities in the region, including Marieville, Rougemont and Saint-Pie, electricity is distributed by the Coopérative régionale d'électricité de Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Rouville. Net metering is available for systems of up to 50 kW, but its by-law makes no provision for paying out the balance when the bank resets, every 24 months. Wait for its conditional authorization before buying; its official authorization is mandatory before connection. The co-op charges no connection fee for most projects, but a request may have to wait until capacity frees up on the grid.
In Varennes, the 2026 Habitation durable program adds $150 per 100 W, up to $1,500, for panels of at least 350 W that meet CAN/CSA standards, with a permit applied for before installation. The maximum is reached at 1 kW. Check whether it can be combined with LogisVert.
LogisVert applies everywhere: $1,000 per kW installed since June 30, 2025, up to 40% of the cost; co-op members attach the co-op's written authorization. With the co-op, the electrical contractor you hire files the request, then a signed verification report: choose one who knows the process.
