The region has two solar realities. On the Gaspé Peninsula, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) projects 1,124 kWh a year in Gaspé and 1,165 kWh in Carleton-sur-Mer for one kilowatt of panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle: Chaleur Bay does better than the tip of the peninsula. For 5 kW in Gaspé: 5 × 1,124 = about 5,620 kWh a year. On the Magdalen Islands, it's 1,059 kWh in Cap-aux-Meules, or about 5,295 kWh for 5 kW, with a sharp seasonal swing: 37 kWh per kW in December, 117 in July.
On the Gaspé Peninsula, Hydro-Québec's standard rules apply. LogisVert pays $1,000 per kW, capped at 40% of purchase and installation costs, for installations completed since June 30, 2025. Net metering turns your surplus into kWh credits until the reset, which comes every 24 months.
On the Islands, Hydro-Québec applies its own terms (version dated March 31, 2026): $2,000 per installed kW, up to 50% of purchase and installation costs. For 5 kW, that's $10,000 if the project costs at least $20,000. A key condition: a home whose main heating system runs on fuel isn't eligible for this assistance. Also confirm the connection conditions on the Islands with Hydro-Québec before you sign.
Your installer may well come from outside the region. Before you sign, make clear who will come back if there's a problem, check the RBQ licence and insist that a master electrician who is a CMEQ member file the connection request before you buy anything.
