In Laval, the picture is simple: one city, one utility, Hydro-Québec. According to Natural Resources Canada, each kilowatt of panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle produces 1,194 kWh a year there, almost the 1,200 kWh average Hydro-Québec quotes for Quebec. For a 5 kW system: 5 × 1,194 = about 5,970 kWh a year.
What's that worth? Under Rate D, in effect since April 1, 2026, a kWh costs 7.065¢ in the first tier and 11.142¢ beyond it. Depending on the tier your production wipes out, those 5,970 kWh are worth $422 to $665 a year before taxes. Net metering carries your surplus forward as kWh credits, but the bank resets every 24 months and the balance is then credited at only 4.730¢ per kWh.
LogisVert pays $1,000 for each kW installed since June 30, 2025, up to 40% of the cost, on a house, a multiplex or a building with 19 units or fewer. Condos aren't eligible for this measure. You apply once Hydro-Québec's official authorization is in hand, within nine months of installation: keep the detailed invoices, the panels' CSA certificates and clear photos showing the number of panels.
During the April 2023 ice storm, about 3,000 Laval customers were still without power on April 10. For the panels, insist on an RBQ licence, a CMEQ master electrician in charge of the connection request, filed before you buy, and ideally NABCEP certification.
