In Rimouski, one kilowatt of solar panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle produces an average of 1,144 kWh a year, according to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Rivière-du-Loup (1,139 kWh) and Matane (1,144 kWh) are almost identical. For a 5 kW system, the math is simple: 5 × 1,144 = about 5,720 kWh a year. That's a little below the 1,200 kWh per kW average Hydro-Québec quotes for Quebec.
The real challenge here is the gap between seasons. Again according to NRCan, that kilowatt generates 54 kWh in December in Rimouski, compared with 115 kWh in July. Net metering from Hydro-Québec, the only utility in the region, is designed for exactly that: your summer surplus becomes kWh credits that lower your winter bills. The credit bank is reset to zero every 24 months, and any balance is then credited at just 4.730¢ per kWh. So size your system to your consumption, not bigger.
On the money side, LogisVert pays $1,000 per kilowatt, capped at 40% of purchase and installation costs, for panels installed on or after June 30, 2025. For 5 kW, you get $5,000 if the project costs at least $12,500. Houses, multiplexes and buildings with 19 units or fewer qualify; condos don't.
Before you sign, check the company's RBQ licence and ask for the name of the master electrician (all master electricians must belong to the CMEQ) who will file the connection request with Hydro-Québec. It has to be done before you buy any equipment. Hydro-Québec also recommends experience with grid-connected solar, ideally NABCEP certification.
