In Capitale-Nationale, everyone is a Hydro-Québec customer, so no municipal utility complicates the connection. Sunshine is slightly below average, though. In Québec City, Natural Resources Canada puts the output of one kilowatt of panels facing due south and tilted at the latitude angle at 1,137 kWh a year, while Hydro-Québec quotes an average of 1,200 kWh for Quebec. Saint-Raymond (1,140 kWh) and La Malbaie (1,148 kWh) are in the same range.
For a 5 kW system in Québec City: 5 × 1,137 = about 5,685 kWh a year. Under Rate D, in effect since April 1, 2026, each kWh is worth 7.065¢ or 11.142¢ on your bill, depending on which price tier it replaces. That output is therefore worth $402 to $633 a year before taxes, provided you use all your net metering credits. Whatever is left in your surplus bank when it resets, every 24 months, is credited at only 4.730¢ per kWh.
Then there's snow. Hydro-Québec says that in most cases you don't need to clear the panels if the installation has a suitable tilt and sits about 45 cm (18 in.) high. Also have the roof's condition and structural capacity assessed before installation: LogisVert doesn't pay for roof repairs.
LogisVert pays $1,000 for each kW installed since June 30, 2025, up to 40% of the cost, on a house, a multiplex or a building with 19 units or fewer. When it comes to the installer, insist on a valid RBQ licence, a master electrician who files the connection request before you buy anything and, ideally, the NABCEP certification Hydro-Québec recommends.
